1969, when Dr. M. J. "Murf" Klauber, The Colony's Chairman,
purchased what was called The Colony Beach Club, it was an 18
acre patch of sand, 110 oddly assorted bungalows and a couple
of concrete tennis courts.
Workers
began immediately to transform the beachfront property into what
has become The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort, with 208 handsomely
appointed, fully equipped villa suites and 26 "specialty
accommodations" ranging from charming cottages, directly
on the beach, to glamorous duplex penthouses. Over the past 30
years, changes have continued to enhance the resort for our guests'
enjoyment. Today, in addition to 21 tennis courts, a beachside
swimming pool and a watersports center on our 800 foot private
beach, guests also enjoy a comprehensive aerobic and fitness center,
men's and women's health spas and dining in either of two
award-winning
waterfront restaurants or on the poolside patio.
Throughout
its history, The Colony has been a hands-on family undertaking.
Today founder "Murf" Klauber shares responsibility for
the operation of the resort with his daughter, Katherine Klauber
Moulton, President and General Manager. Together they direct a
Colony family of more than 300 staff members, dedicated to making
every guest's stay with us complete perfection.
